Anna Vernov’s honorary doctorate nomination

Anna Vernov’s creative career has entered a new chapter through an honorary doctorate nomination. Her professional portfolio is being coordinated by the Metropolitan School of Business & Management UK (MSBM), acting as the nominating and representing institution in partnership with Universidad Azteca in Mexico. The process is scheduled to continue within the January 2027 cohort.

The nomination brings into focus a career combining musical authorship with the development of cultural projects. A composer, performer and founder of VP-AKKA-CASIDAF, Vernov works across music, audiovisual production and international collaboration. Russia, France and Brazil are central to her professional story, shaping both the geography of her work and the musical language she explores.

Her classical training as a violinist provided the foundation for her approach to music. That background now informs contemporary popular music, neoclassical writing and electronic jazz textures. I Miss You Tonight forms part of this direction, as Vernov continues to develop her contemporary repertoire.

Production extends this artistic practice. Through Vernov Production & AKKA Music and CASIdAF & BRUCEF, projects connect the creation of works with their presentation to audiences. For the founder, this involves several stages of development, from the initial musical idea to collaboration with performers and preparation for the stage.

This breadth of activity has also appeared in press coverage. A Queen Magazine feature, listed in the house’s press section on 22 March 2024, presented Vernov as an artist and producer, connecting her musical work with audiovisual and digital initiatives.

Her honorary doctorate nomination is being pursued in the context of this interdisciplinary career. An honorary degree recognises professional contribution, with its conferral requiring a separate university decision. Current documentation confirms that her portfolio has passed MSBM’s preliminary review and received conditional acceptance. Final confirmation from Universidad Azteca belongs to a subsequent stage of the process.

For VP-AKKA-CASIDAF, the nomination offers an occasion to present its founder’s work as a whole, through her compositions, production projects and connections between musical cultures. That work continues with the development of her repertoire and preparations for further performances in 2027.
